For the first semester of Architecture I took a class called ARCH111. This class was challenging because I struggled with the concepts and how we were to present them, but by taking this class it allowed me to see certain things in a different ways. During this semester I was given a project where I had to express my feelings and emotions about a space. These traits were to shown in a sculpture form but, the sculpture was not to resemble the area.
To begin with I struggled with having to create a sculpture about the way I felt, let alone having to make it abstract at the same time. The space that I chose was an alleyway. It was very dark, smelly and co strophic in some areas. The alley was behind shops so there was rubbish and tagging everywhere which made you feel weary about passing foot traffic. When standing in the middle of the alley and looking up you could see the sky, to me, this opening in an intimidating space made me think trying to escape. So when I created my sculpture I tried to express this.
I used mixed media which involved clay, glass, spray-paint and wax. I chose to use a broken beer bottle, this allowed me to show what the area felt like.
